Announcing New Postdoctoral Fellow in Archaeobotany, Dr. Sonia Zarrillo

The Cotsen Institute of Archaeology is pleased to announce that Dr. Sonia Zarrillo has been awarded the Postdoctoral Fellowship in Archaeobotany.  Dr. Zarrillo received her Ph.D. from the University of Calgary and has experience in both university and CRM research environments, including the University of British Columbia and the Universidad San Francisco de Quito in Ecuador.  Her current work involves two major projects in New World archaeobotany, both centered on the human use of plants in South America: one project on the pre-Columbian history of cacao, and one project on the adoption and use of plants along the distinctive gradient of elevation and topography in the Andes from sea level to the high plateau and from the PaleoIndian to modern times.  She brings an impressive record of collaboration, hands-on collecting and analysis, and teaching to the post, and we look forward to having her join our community in February 2019. At the moment there is considerable media attention for her most recent publication which can be found at https://www.nature.com/articles/s41559-018-0697-x
