From the Field: Turin, Italy
The collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts in Museo Egizio is among the most important in the world. It includes the Old Kingdom Tomb of the Unknown, the New Kingdom Tomb of Kha and Merit, the Nubian Temple of Ellesiya, and the Turin Papyrus Map. Since the summer of 2016, Museo Egizio, faculty of the Cotsen Institute, and the Institute for Field Research (a local non-profit) have been collaborating to provide opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students to study ancient Egyptian history and material culture in Turin, Italy. This five-week, intensive teaching and hands-on program focuses on archaeology, conservation, museology, public outreach, and digital data curation. In 2019, there were two five-week sessions.
