Undocumented Migration Program Featured in D.C. Museum Exhibit
The Undocumented Migration Program (UMP), which is directed by Prof. Jason De Leon, was cited in a recent article in The New York Times discussing a special exhibition at the Phillips Collection in D.C. on “The Warmth of Other Suns.” One of the rooms of the exhibition pairs abstractions by artist Mark Rothko with interviews with Mexican migrants recorded by the UMP and played on speakers in the exhibition. The UMP is a long-term anthropological study of clandestine movement between Latin America and the United States that uses ethnography, archaeology, visual anthropology, and forensic science to understand various aspects of unauthorized border crossings.
